Toyota Forklifts With Wet Disc Brakes

Starting in May 2021, wet disc brakes are now standard on the following Toyota forklifts:

The forklifts above also come with wide tire tread and oil-charged lift cylinders.

If you’re already using wet disc forklift brakes, you’re probably thinking, “it’s about time!” We feel the same.

Not familiar with wet disc brakes? Here’s what all the excitement is about.

How Wet Disc Forklift Brakes Work

Wet disc brakes operate inside a sealed environment immersed in radiator-cooled hydraulic fluid. When the operator pushes down on the brake pedal, a series of rotors and discs inside the assembly contact each other. The resulting friction stops the forklift while the brakes stay cool in their fluid bath.

Toyota’s wet disc forklift brakes:

  • Last 5-10x longer than standard brakes - their estimated lifespan is 10 years/20,000 hours
  • Resist damage from sand, mud, debris and moisture - because they operate in a sealed environment
  • Don’t require maintenance - wet brakes never need an adjustment, spring or linkage replacement.
  • Are safer and more reliable - wet brakes have tremendous stopping power, even in dirty, wet and/or outdoor environments
  • Won’t overheat, glaze or grab - which can save you thousands in repairs costs
  • Reduces wear and tear on tires - the brakes’ radiator-cooled hydraulic fluid draws heat away from the drivetrain and tires
  • Make your job a little less chaotic - wet brakes are smooth, quiet, and backed by Toyota’s 3-year/6,000-hour powertrain warranty.
